'Us'(2019) movie - Review by Naga

'Us' movie by Jordan Peele Discover Card by SNL Rating: 3/5  I usually spend most of my Sundays trying to catch up some of the  funny skits on YouTube put out by Saturday Night Live(SNL). Today going over the videos from last night one after the other, I bumped into a skit made on discover card. It was deeply unsettling and I couldn't really follow the script. We see a young couple(perhaps recently married) seated at a breakfast table on a sunny morning(could be Sunday). The husband is busy going through his Facebook feeds on his iPad. He is a black man with a friendly face wearing horn rimmed glasses, a thin line of mustache over his upper lip and along his jawline. He is a bit stout and stocky in frame. His wife sitting next to him is a thin, tall woman with shot cut curls parted midways on her head. She was browsing her credit card account history and noticing something odd with her recent transactions, makes a call to the Discover Card customer service. As the hu

The Godfather, Novel - Review by Naga

The Godfather  by Mario Puzo   Rating; 3/5   Hailed as one of the highest rated and best selling thriller with a cult following for both the novel and the movie, this book has left me conflicted with mixed feelings. There were moments when i cringed in disgust as the author explains in detail the numerous distorted sexual alliances between rich men in their sixties, seventies and young girls who are barely over twelve years old. What a perverted world it must be when money and fame creates a void to be filled with booze, drugs and incessant sexual fantasies and escapades. Even if what he has described about movie stars from Hollywood happens to be remotely true, it is a depraved and degraded world that no amount of money should convince one to be a part of. The enjoyable aspect is the adrenaline rush experienced with the twists in the narrative where it is  hard to anticipate much less predict who has betrayed our major players in the game and what is to come next.It is usually a

Bad Blood - Review by Naga

Bad Blood : The secrets and lies in a Silicon Valley Start-Up by John Carreyrou An idea can change the world - but this idea(thought) has to be changed first. An idea put into effect can change the world. Not the idea in itself. Or by itself. The woman 'CEO out for blood' had a vision for the future of medical industry but didn't translate it to the company she set up. She had plenty of charm and vulnerability which made others not want to hurt her but that didn't stop the ruthlessness she showed towards them. Having watched a few YouTube videos on Theranos and Elizabeth Holmes, I almost developed a kind of obsession in wanting to know more about what went down with the company. How the brilliant entrepreneur managed to cox millions of dollars from numerous high profiled investors and set up a company that valued at 9 billion dollars with nothing more than a smoke screen of a technology. This led me into getting the tell-all book 'Bad Blood: Secrets and Li

'Man and Wife' - Review by Naga

'Man and Wife'  by Wilkie Collins Rating: 4/5 Goodreads I have started reading this book on March 10th, 2019 and it has taken me awhile to get through. There were times while reading it when I thought I would never make it to the end - perhaps leave the book unfinished and take up another. I have done this sort of a thing in the past. I actually did read another book in between 'Bad Blood' by John Carreyrou which I will review in a separate post. Instead of leaving this book off, I resolved to pick it up and finish it by any means necessary. So there I was on the eve of a weekend on March 22nd, feeling lazy to walk downstairs and cook myself some food, wrapped up in a comforter enclosed in a warm and cozy room, reading off from where I left the story last time - 50%.  This day is remarkable for several other reasons like it marks the culmination of a much followed, much hyped, much anticipated investigation into the crimes of a notable figure in American political
